Public space can be interpreted in many different ways according to different artists. For me, I like to engage the audience with my work and let them interact with the art-piece. I have always been inclined towards PLAY in my practice. Play is a sort of interaction; be it a furniture installation, sculptural artefact or product design. As I am not too familar with public art and how people respond to an artefact in a public space, I tried keeping my installation simple and showing action and reaction at the same time which has been my interpretation for kinetic art.
Hi I am Richard Antony, IADP student. In my journey through-out srishti, I have always been fascinated by huge objects and the working that goes behind the making of it. I started my journey through making small furniture models to installations and finally decided to follow my path and do public art for my final semester project because somewhere in the journey I realized what kind of form attracts me towards art and what drives me in making my installltion-sculptural art.
The whole idea of public art in this project is to let the public break free from their rather scheduled day and interact with your art piece which brings disorder in their own transit like movements through out the day which includes the metro station. Keeping this in mind I wanted to work with the term ’PLAY’ and how it defines movement and disorder in the metro station. I galloped from making an interactive furniture piece to a kinetic art installation for the metro keeping the amount of chaos and movement visible in the metro station which inspires my artifact. Interactivity depends on how the artist/designer connects with the confined space he is working in and how the space generates his creativity for the space itself.
